Vaya Bags - Interview with the owners!

Vaya Bags produced messenger bags, backpacks, accessories and so on. It is a small women owned and operated company based out of Queens, NY. Some of the main material they use to make their bags are recycled bicycle tubes, scrap sailboat awnings and old banners.

Have a peep on the owners behind the scene!

"What is the first Vayabags you make? Which one is your favourite? Are you using it?"

"The first Vaya Bag I made was the one for myself. It was red and grey and I silkscreened a skull on the front. It is still hanging in there although I don't use it anymore, since I am not so into skulls these days. Thankfully I have gotten much better at making bags through the years!"
"My current bag is a Vaya Backpack that is navy, purple and green in a sunburst design. It carries everything I need and is super comfortable.  I think my favorite bag design we make is our woven bike tube messenger bag.We cut the bike tubes into strips, weave them and sew them down.  It is a lot of work, but in the end it looks amazing!"

History

Vaya Bags first started by making the own bags for daily use in Boston in 2005.

People adores their bags. That's when they start making bags for others.

They now have a storefront in Ridgewood, all of their bags made in there.

Features

The most fascinating feature of Vaya bags is waterproofness.

They are getting lots of feedback on how amazing the waterproof  function of the bag is.

These bags actually save  laptops in rainy days.

Production

All of the bags and accessories are handmade by Vaya bags.

When they use the recycled bike tubes, it usually involves a trip to the laundromat to wash all of the tubes.

Then cut them and sew them together.

Each bag is uniquely handmade by them individually.

They offer custom service for customers to create their own bag.

Searching ways to make a bag exactly how they want it is kinda interesting for them.

MAKR will always be an extension of their lifestyle and a project with multi-platform output and interest in all aspects of design.

"We build things we wish existed, in ways we think are interesting." quoted by Makr Carry Goods.

MAKR's leather processed at US and English tanneries or metal parts from Germany and Italy to reach the full potential of the architecture of their products.
